Accelerated Reading: A Guide for Parents

In S.N. Iorball Sionnaigh, all pupils from 1st to 6th class take part in the Accelerated Reader programme. It is designed to do the following :

* Find books that are the right ability for your child

*Encourage your child to read more

*Improve your child's reading ability

What is Accelerated Reading?

In short, Accerlerated Reader is a computer program that helps teachers manage and monitor children's independent reading practice. Your child picks a book at his/her own level and reads it at his/her own pace. When finished, your child takes a short quiz. Accelerated Reader gives children and teachers feedback based on quiz results, which the teacher then uses to help your child set goals and direct ongoing reading practice.
