Pancake Tuesday 2026

The smell of baking filled the corridors of Urbleshanny today as many eager pupils were sieveing, whisking, pouring and cooking pancakes for Shrove Tuesday.

Traditionally, rich foods such as eggs, butter, milk and sugar were avoided during Lent. To prevent waste, families would use these ingredients to make pancakes before Lent began on Ash Wednesday.
